A goal in the first period and two more in the third was enough for the junior varsity RWD Cheavers hockey team to wrap up a sweep on its northern swing on Saturday (Jan. 9) at United Civic Center Ice Arena with a 3-1 win against the Baldwin-Woodville Hawks.
Junior Carter Scully collected the lone goal of the opening period with help from Spencer Garbacz. The hosts rallied to tie it with the only shot to elude junior Gary Wiles with 6:28 to play the second period.
Yevgeny Dedun put the Cheavers in front to stay with an assist for Mark Othmer 99 seconds into the final period and Caleb Eastman added some insurance with his unassisted goal about seven minutes later.
Wiles collected his second win of the weekend, turning aside 18 of 19 shots while the JV Cheavers fired 35 shots the other way.
