All four local varsity hockey teams have been affected by a Badger Conference that it would not operate during the 2020-21 Winter Sports season.

The Conference released a statement Friday afternoon that is would not be playing an official conference winter sports season.

RWD, Baraboo/Portage and Sauk Prairie all participate in the Badger North hockey Conference while the Badger Lightning is in the Badger Girls hockey Conference.

The Conference left it up to the individual schools to set up their own non-conference schedules for the season. It appears could still keep their own Badger North games scheduled, but they would not be playing for a Conference title (at least, not a recognized one) and the Conference will not participate in all-Conference honors.

Of the representative schools, it appears Portage is the only one to make its own plans known. Portage does plan to participate in winter sports this season, of course with safety protocols and precautions in place.

Other Sauk County Schools will likely make their own announcements in the hours or days ahead.

If Sauk County school do hold some sort of season this winter, Saukhockey.info will announce all-Sauk County teams in the spring.
