Varsity Lightning wraps up home season with win

Badger Lightning varsity girls hockey team sent the home crowd home happy with its fifth win of the season, an 11- whipping of the Beaver Dam Golden Beavers.

The team’s six seniors were honored the previous week and make one final appearance on home ice, all six playing a key role in the lopsided win.

The home team went to work immediately, posting a 26-5 edge on the shots clock and rolling out of the opening frame with an already comfortable 4-0 cushion. By the time teams rolled into the third period, the Lightning owned a 6-1 lead and after a pair of early goals for the guests, the Lightning went back work scoring five of the final six goals.

Leading the offensive charge were seniors Ellie Goethel who notched a hat tick and set up another; Kaylee Engel with two goals and two assists and Allison Knull with a goal and three helpers.

fellow freshman Eryn Benson added three assists. Senior Baylee Babcock scored twice, sophomore Daelynn Merrell and freshman Bella Bowden both adding a goal and assist.

Other assists went to senior Emily Patton; sophomore Carson Blosenski and freshmen Mallory Ruhland and Lani Selje.

The Lightning will wrap up its regular season on the road against the Lakeshore Lightning on Friday.
