The Baraboo/Portage Thunderbirds Bantams and Sauk Prairie Flyers ‘B’ Bantams tangled for the first time this season Sunday, the Flyers collecting a 6-3 win at Pierce Park Pavilion in Baraboo.
Teams were even at 1-1 after a period as Wyatt Jost opened the scoring for the Thunderbirds with 5:18 to play in the period before Jacob Wiegmann tied it up with 2:42 left, from Ryan Flynn.
Wiegmann put the Flyers in front after taking a pass from Kaleb Chetwood 3:29 into the middle period and this time Baraboo rallied back, Benjamin Kramer burying an unassisted goal just past the halfway mark of the period.
Wiegmann wrapped up a hat trick off another feed from Chetwood to boost the Flyers to a 3-2 cushion at the break.
Chetwood’s third point was the game winning goal, and he added another assist on a goal by Flynn before the period was five minutes old.
Flynn notched another, from Wiegmann later in the period and the final game came from Dayana Wade, from Brody Bjorklund for the Thunderbirds in the game’s final minute.
The Flyers held a slim 23-22 edge in shots in the contest.
