The RWD Squirt ‘B’ Cheavers earned a split in a three-game weekend, wrapping up a 2-2 tie and a 5-3 win against the host Sparta Spartans then returned to the Coulee Region and dropping a 5-4 decision to the host Onalaska Tornado on Sunday.

Something about Sparta agreed with Cheavers’ forward Owen Meyer who played a part in all seven goals scored on Saturday.

After firing both goals, unassisted in the opening contest that also saw a three-minute scoreless overtime period, Meyer notched the hat trick in the second game, setting up Thomas Bowen on the other two.

On Sunday, the Cheavers made the trek to the Omni in Onalaska coming up just short in a one-goal defeat.

Bowen and Meyer formed a nice tandem again, Bowen scoring twice and Meyer once, both earning assists on the other’s goals.

William Fenwick counted the other RWD goal, unassisted.

Isaac Howe handled the work in goal in all three games for the Cheavers.

The weekend results pushed the team’s record to 4-12-2 on the season. They will be back in action this weekend returning to the same area for the tournament in West Salem.

The RWD Squirt B Cheavers hockey team got its season off to a solid start, battling Dodgeville Ice Wolves to a 2-2 draw in its opener Saturday at the Reedsburg Area Recreation Arena (RACA) and a 6-1 win against the Polar Ice Caps from Madison on Sunday morning.

While her teammates enjoyed a big offensive weekend, led by Owen Meyer who fired five of them – four in the game Sunday, Aria Gada enjoyed an awesome, but in the end heartbreaking weekend in goal as she allowed just three goals in six periods.

The Polar Caps enjoyed a bit of a consolation on Sunday as the team’s lone goal denied Gada a shutout bid with one second remaining to play on the team’s 19th shot of the contest. The good news is Gada has plenty of more chances to nail down a shutout and she will no doubt record several in goal for the Cheavers.

Talon Burton and William Fenwick also collected goals on Sunday. Joel Dotts collected two assists in the game with others going to Thomas Bowen Jr., Tenley Vander Wilt and Bentley Meyer.

The Squirt B Cheavers were back in the rink Monday preparing for its next two games this weekend as the team will again play host, Saturday against the Verona ‘C’ Wildcats at 2:15 p.m.  and Sunday at 2:45 p.m. against the Sauk Prairie Squirt ‘B’ squad.

The Squirt ‘B’ Flyers will also play host to the same Verona Wildcats squad on Saturday at 11 a.m.
