Peewee A Flyers pound Jr. Knights

After dropping a 2-1 decision to the RWD Cheavers early in the day, the Sauk Prairie Peewee ‘A’ Flyers made the Beloit Jr. Knights pay a heavy price later Nov. 13. 

The Eagles slammed home eight first period goals on its way to an 11-0 shutout win at Edwards Activity and Sports Center in Beloit against the host Junior Knights. 

Ryker Hovland, Alexander Kirk and Rowan Krauss scored two each for the Flyers and Braden Schlough notched a goal and two assists in the win. Baryn Macleish-Breunig and Michael Jolicoeur notched a goal and assist, and the other goals came from Logan Harrington and Gavin Froese. Caden Argall chipped in an assist. 

Jameson Ballweg collected the shutout win in goal.  

The win against the Knights got the Flyers back on the winning track and boosted the team’s overall record to 4-2. 

The team enjoyed this past weekend off and heads into action on the Thanksgiving weekend with a pair of games at Stateline Ice and Community Expo (SLICE) in Monroe at 9:15 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Sunday against the host Avalanche

Argall, Kirk pace Flyers to pair of road wins

The Sauk Prairie Peewee ‘A’ Flyers opened its Wisconsin Amateur Hockey Association (WAHA) regular season with a road trip and a pair of contests in Beaver Dam this past weekend.  

Third period goals lifted the Flyers to a pair of one-goal wins at the Beaver Dam Family Center Ice Arena Saturday. The first game went to the Flyers by a 4-3 margin and the getaway game was a 5-4 decision against the host squad.  

The opening game saw the Flyers blasting out of the gate and grabbing a 3-0 first period lead but the home team struck back with a pair of unanswered middle period goals, both teams adding one more in the third. 

Caden Argall scored twice, including the game winner for the Flyers with other goals added by Ryker Hovland and Michael Jolicoeur. Logan Harrington and Braden Schlough had set ups and Jameson Ballweg collected the win in goal with 21 saves.  

Xavier Wagner fired a pair for Beaver Dam and Zander Statz counted the other. Tyce Moreau kicked out 17 shots in goal for the home side. 

The second game saw the Flyers getting off to a quick start again, this time a 3-1 cushion after a period and up 4-3 heading to the third.  

Alexander Kirk opened the scoring for the Flyers and added a powerplay goal with just under six minutes to play to clinch the win.  Beaver Dam pulled back late in the contest but Kirk’s second stood up as the game winner.  

Argall, Hovland and Jolicoeur notched the other Flyers’ goals with help from Kirk, Logan Harrington and Ben Freeman. Ballweg notched his second win of the day in goal with a 19-save effort. 

Wagner scored another and Statz notched a pair to wrap up three-goal days for Beaver Dam, the other goal added by Isiah Olds. Moreau stopped another 23 shots in goal. 

Uminski assist helps TW Black to a draw

Landen Uminski, from RWD Youth Hockey along with Alexander Kirk and Michael Joliceour from the Sauk Prairie Flyers, wrapped up play as members of the Team Wisconsin ‘09 Peewee  Black team on Sunday. 

Team Black squared off with Team Grey in two games at the Blue Line Family Ice Center in Fond Du Lac, playing to a 4-4 draw in the first game, but falling 8-3 in the finale. 

In the opening game, Trevor Szkodzinsky scored a pair for Team Black with singles for Knox Cleland and Brett Toth. Uminski had a set up on one of the goals. 

Szkodzinski, Aliya Mihlbauer and Easton Jones scored the Team Black goals. The loss to Team Grey denied team Black a share of top spot in the four-team six-game Peewee ‘10 Showcase league. Team Black finished at 2-2-2, Team White finishing on to with a 3-2-1 mark and Team Red which played Team White at the same time, at McFarland wrapped up a 2-1-3 record.

Uminski, Kirk and Jolicoeur help TW Black at Combine

Alexander Kirk from the Sauk Prairie Flyers and Landen Uminski from RWD both contributed but and helped the Team Wisconsin ‘Black’ squad collect 12 goals on its way to a weekend draw and win..

Uminski, Kirk and Michael Jolicoeur, also from the Flyers’ organization, play together on Team Black, one of four clubs in the Team Wisconsin Peewee Combine League.

In their first game, Black battled Team Red to a 4-4 draw and collect an 8-4 win against Team White in action at the Blue Line Family Ice Center in Fond du Lac.

In the opener, Trevor Szkodzinski scored the first goal for Team Black and Kirk added another about two minutes later, but Team Red pulled one back before the end of the opening period and after a scoreless middle period, tied the game near the middle of the final frame.

Kirk’s second of the game put Black in front once again, but Red scored two goals about three minutes apart to grab its first lead of the contest.

Knox Cleland pulled Team Black even with 2:24 to go on a feed from Kirk.

A game summary was unavailable for the second game, but scoring details were.

Uminski picked up a goal for Black and Kirk set up one. Greyson Welsh paced the offense with three goals and Cleland fired a pair with single for Szkodzinski and Carson Schroeder.

The weekend results boosted Team Black to 2-1-1 on the season so far, behind only the 3-1 Team White.

Teams will split up this weekend as Team Black returns to Fond du Lac to play two games, both against Team Grey, at 1 p.m. and 3:45 p.m. Teams Red and White will square off in McFarland in a pair of games

Locals contribute on TW Peewee Combine squads

The local representation on Team Wisconsin has grown again with four Sauk County peewee aged players playing on two different teams in the TW Fall Combine program. 

There are four teams in the 2010 group with three locals – Landen Uminski from RWD along with Sauk Prairie Eagles players Alexander Kirk and Michael Jolicoeur play on Team Black. 

The other three teams are Team White, Team Red and Team Grey. 

The 2009 teams has three teams including Ethan Wilcox on Team Red which competes against Team White and Team Black. 

Teams went through a couple weeks of practices and entered their round robin play this past weekend.  

2010 Black  

The 2010 teams played at the McFarland Community Ice Arena. Team Black found the going tough with a 10-2 defeat in its opener against Team White, then rebounded with a 6-5 edge against the same team later in the day.  

In the opening game, Uminski scored one of the goals and Kirk picked up an assist. The later contest saw Jolicoeur getting in on the action with a goal and assist in a game dominated by Carson Schroeder who scored four times for Team Black. 

On Sunday, Team Black will move on to Fond du Lac, playing a pair of games against Team Red at the Blue Line Family Ice Center at 1 p.m. and 3:45 p.m.  

Team Red opened play with a 3-3 draw and a 6-4 win in Appleton last weekend.  

2009 Red  

Wilcox and the 2009 Team Red are in control of the play so far in the 2009 division, opening play at Oshkosh Community YMCA with a 3-1 win against Team Black followed by a 5-3 win against Team White.  

Ethan Wilcox picked up an assist in the second game. He and Team Red will hit the road to South Wood County Recreation Center in Wisconsin Rapids Sunday, squaring off against Team Black at 1 p.m. followed immediately at 2:15 p.m against Team White.  

Both teams will wrap up their round robin play the following weekend.
