The David Lohrei era, likely the most successful years in Sauk Prairie Eagles varsity hockey team history has come to an end.
Lohrei, stepped behind the bench for he Eagles at the start of the 2016-17 season, bringing with him a lengthy resume that dated back to the late 80’s when he started out as an assistant coach with the NCAA program at University of Miami (Ohio).
He moved on to coach a half dozen seasons with the Sioux City Musketeers of the USHL, then moved to the pros with eight seasons with various minor pro league teams.

In seven seasons with the Eagles, Lohrei was over .500 every season and finished with an awesome 109-39-7 overall record.
His son, Mason made the news recording his first NHL goal as a member of the Boston Bruins on Monday night and his daughter, Zoe, also a defender just started her junior season at Adrian College in Michigan in the NCAA Division 3 Northern Collegiate Hockey Association.
The combination of Lohrei, and a solid group of youth players has seen the Eagles battle among the top teams in the Badger North and Badger West Conferences.
Congratulations to Lohrei on a awesome career.
The school recently announced the hiring of Colin Trulock, a Baraboo resident who moved to the area a little more than a decade ago after a successful junior and college career to coach the Baraboo Thunderbirds varsity team. He started this season as the Defensive Coach with the Dells Ducks. More on Trulock in the team’s 2023-24 preview in the days ahead.
