The Bar Down Beer League jumped into its first season Sunday night with a pair of games at the Lake Delton Ice Arena.

The four teams – three of them going simply by jersey colors for now hit the ice with 14 goals scored in the opening two games. The season opener saw goaltender Dane Hinze leading the Green squad to a 5-0 shutout win against the Red team while the second game was a bit more back and forth as team yellow used a third period rally to double the Army Ducks but a 6-3 count
Green 5 Red 0
The season opener started a bit slow as Dawson Hinze counted the lone first period goal from Truman Nicksic but the green team added three more in the middle period to move away from Team Red.
Griffin Nicksic, Steve Mordini and Chuck Larson counted the goals with help from Adam Stanton, Gage Tezeak and Steve Mordini.
While Hinze kept his cease clean, kicking out the 13 shots he faced, Cooper Oakes was kept busy at the opposite end and despite a 33-save effort, he took the loss. Wrapping up the scoring was a second for Mordini in the final period, from Dawson Hinze.
Yellow 6 Army Ducks 3
The Ducks hit the board first as Derek Tylka hammered a shot home from the right faceoff circle home early in the contest but Anthony Rohde converted a feed from Lucas Epperson a short time later to get Yellow on the board.

Josh Krueger pulled the Ducks even again in the second period from Tom Van den Busche and Dustin (Twisty) Curley set up Krueger for another to put the Ducks in front again a short time later. Carter Cole also collected an assist on that goal r
The third period was all-Yellow though as Tyler Terry notched the equalizer from Rohde and Andrew Schulenberg, setting the stage for Eric Zerelli who sank the game winner unassisted a short time later.
Schulenberg added some insurance for Yellow later in the period and the clincher game from Travis Slaght who fired a 120-footer into the empty cage with just over a minute to go.
Suds – Commisioner Pat Holzem and organizer Joe Leute ran Chuck-A-Duck contests after the second period in both games and winners received a $50 Gift Certificate to Del Bar. Also, Rayna Hess turned in amazing versions of the American National Anthem before both games.
There were surprisingly few glitches on the first night of men’s league play at the Lake Delton Ice Arena since the building was constructed in the late 90’s. Leute and Holzem were both happy with the way things ran but are looking to attract more fan support and they have some ideas that could bring in the support in the weeks ahead.
